Katyayani Vrat

Katyayani Vrat  is observed during the Dhanurmas. Dhanurmas starts with the day the sun enters the Dhanu Rashi or the sun sign Sagittarius. These days are Considered most auspicious.

This vrat is observed by Unmarried girls who wish to get a good husband and Married women also observe for for a long, prosperous and happy married life. This vrat was mentioned in Bhagavatha Puranam, Skanda Puranam and also in Devi Mahatyam. Goddess Goda Devi was able to marry Lord Sri Ranganatha Swamy by observing this Vrat. Lord krishna also adviced Gopikas to observe this vrat.

Women have to get up early in the morning, take a head bath. The house has to be cleaned.The front portion of the house where normally the Rangoli is done has to be cleansed by sprinkling with water to which cow dung is added. Katyani Strotam or Katyani Vrat Katha is to be chanted early in the morning after taking bath.After that Shodasa Upachara Puja is  Performed to Goddess Katyayani Devi.
