Nagula Chavithi
Nagula Chavithi is an auspicious day to observe Naga Puja.
It is observed on the fourth day (Chaturthi) after Deepavali Amavasya during
Karthika masam. Nag Panchami and Nagasashti are observed after Naga Chaturthi.
In some parts of Andhra Pradesh it is also celebrated in the month of Sravana
masam.
On this day Naga devatha is worshipped . In Some places Devotees visit Putta (snake pit) offer Naivedyam and perform puja.women observe fasting for the well-being of their family and to protect them from the bites of snakes. Devotees offer milk to Naga Devatha.
The popular legend associated with Nagula Chavithi in Telugu Hindu culture suggests that on the day Lord Shiva drank the poison Halahala or Kalkuta to save the universe during the famous incident of Samudra Manthan.Pujas and prayers are held in Naga temples across the state. The temple of Srikalahasti in Andhra Pradesh is of great importance, where the serpent is placed in the shrine out of the three elements. Naga Puja or Sarpa Dosha Yagam is carried out by devotees in the shrine.
This Festival is mainly Observed in Southern India.
