Ratha Saptami

Ratha Saptami or Magha Saptami occurs in the month of Magh as per the lunar calendar. Ratha Saptami occurs on the seventh day of the waxing phase of the moon or on the sukla paksha Saptami of the Magh Month.Ratha is a Sanskrit word which means Chariot.

Saptami means the seven. Since on the day of Magh Saptami it is believed that the sun god would turn his chariot in the definitive North direction this day is popular by the name of Ratha Saptami. It also marks the birth of Surya and hence celebrated as Surya Jayanti.

Kumba Sankranti

Kumbh Sankranti is the day, When transition of sun takes place to Kumbha rashi (Aquarius) from Makara rashi (Capricorn). Kumbh Sankranti day is celebrated mainly in eastern parts of India.

Vasant Panchami

Vasanth Panchami is celebrated  every year on the fifth day of the bright half of the Indian month of Magh.It is  also known as Saraswati Puja, Shree Panchami.This festival is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi.It is also celebrated Goddess Saraswathi Birthday.This festival also marks the begining of spring season india. Saraswathi Devi is Worshipped for knowledge,music and culture.

Ganesh Jayanti




Ganesha Jayanti is the birthday of Lord Ganesha and is been observed on the fourth day in the month of Magha known as Magha Shukla Paksha Chaturthi.It is also called as Tilkund chaturthi, and Varad chaturthi.It is mostly observed in in Maharasthra.There is difference between Ganesh Jayanti and Ganesh Chaturthi.

Magha Month 2017

Magha Masam is the 11th month in Hindu Calendar.This month is considered auspicious to perform all the major occasions like marriage, Gruhapravesam and other functions.This month is also highly auspicious for taking early bath in the rivers before sunrise. Both Lord Shiva and Vishnu are Worshiped during this Month.

Mauni Amavasya

Mauni Amavasya occurs on the 15th day of the dark fortnight of Magh (January-February). Mauni is derived from the Sanskrit word Mauna which means silence. A person who practices silence is known as a Mauni. Amavasya refers to the day in a month when one sees the new moon.

 On the day of Mauni Amavasya the Sun and the Moon are present in the Zodiac sign of Capricorn which would give the highest spiritual merit.

Attukal Pongala 2016

The Attukal Bhagavathy Temple, one of the ancient temples of South India, is popularly described as Sabarimala of the Women, as women form the major portion of devotees is located at Attukal. The Goddess in the temple of Attukal is worshipped as the Supreme Mother, creator of all living beings and the mighty preserver as well as destroyer of them all. The pilgrims from all over the country, who visit Sree Padmanabha Swamy Temple and worship the Lord, do not consider their visits complete without the visit to the shrine of the supreme Mother Attukalamma.

Shattila Ekadashi

Shattila Ekadashi, also known as Sattila Ekadashi or Tilda Ekadashi, is observed usually in the month of January during the waning phase of the moon. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Shattila Ekadashi is performed on the 11th day in the month of Magh, in North India and Paush, in other regions, as per the traditional Hindu calendar. The name Sat-Tila has been derived from ‘til’ which means sesame seeds which are donated to the poor and hungry. The devotees also consider it highly auspicious to bath in water mixed with sesame seeds. They also offer oblations by mixing water with sesame seeds to their dad ancestors.
