Vasant Panchami

Vasanth Panchami is celebrated  every year on the fifth day of the bright half of the Indian month of Magh.It is  also known as Saraswati Puja, Shree Panchami.This festival is dedicated to Goddess Saraswathi.It is also celebrated Goddess Saraswathi Birthday.This festival also marks the begining of spring season india. Saraswathi Devi is Worshipped for knowledge,music and culture.


Vasant/Basant means spring,panchami means the fifth day.This day is considered very auspicious for education and small children are taught first letter on this day.Yellow colour has special significance on this day as it signifies spirituality and vibrancy of life.On this day yellow flowers are offered to god.

Maa saraswathi is worshipped with full dedication.Particularly students visit temples and get blessings from maa saraswathi. On this day, People also feed Brahmans with the feeling that their ancestors are accepting the food.

Most educational institutions arrange special prayers or pujas in the morning to seek blessing of the Goddess.Initiating education to children is known as Akshar-Abhyasam or Vidya-Arambham/Praasana, one of the famous rituals of Vasant Panchami. In Bengal, idols of Saraswati are taken on procession and immersed in the holy Ganga. Large number of devotees visit Basara Saraswathi temple and offer prayers on this day.
