Sri Neervanna Perumal Temple
Sri Neervanna
Perumal Temple is one among the 108 divyadesams found in chennai near
Tambaram(Thondai nadu).
This
hill was surrounded by water when Thirumangai Azhwar visited the shrine. Hence it is called
Thiruneermalai. People need to climb steps to reach the hill top. It
would be around 200 to 300 steps.
Legend :
The legend is that when Valmiki prayed
to Lord Ranganatha and Goddess Ranganayaki in the base temple, they took the
form of Lord Rama and Sita, Sesha, Conch, Chakra as
Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatruguna and Garuda as Hanuman. Sage Valmiki could view Lord Ranganatha, Lord Trivikrama and
Lord Narasimha in the top
temple.
Temple :
The base Temple is dedicated to Lord Rama also known as
Neervanan in a standing posture and the temple up the hill has four shrines for
Lord Ranganatha (Kidanthaan – in reclining posture), Animamalarmangai Thayaar,
Trivikrama (Nadanthaan – in standing posture) and Lord Narasimha (Irundhaan –
sitting posture). It is a double prakaram temple. The Garuda shrine faces the
Lord. The view from the top of the hill is wonderful.
In this Sthalam, the Perumal is found is various positions as
Nindraan, Irunthaan, Kidanthaan and Nadanthaan Thirukkolam.This Thiruneermalai
Kshetram is also called as "Thoyagiri Kshetram" and also as
"Thothadri". Thoya means "Water" and Adhiri means
"Mountain" (malai). Since the mountain is surrounded by water, this
sthalam is named as "Thiru Neermalai".
The perumal give sevas in four different positions :
- Sri Neervannar - Nindra
Thirukkolam.
- Lord Narasimhar - Irundha
Thirukkolam.
- Lord Ranganathar - Kidantha
Thirukkolam.
- Lord Thiruvikraman - Nadantha
Thirukkolam.
Pushkarani:
- Kshri includes Karunya, Sidha and
Swarna Pushkarani.
- Kshri Pushkarani for Kidantha
Perumal.
- Karunya Pushkarani for Nindra
Perumal.
- Sittha Pushkarani for Ulagalantha
Perumal.
- Swarna Pushkarani for Veetruntha
Paramapatha Emperuman.
The Pushkarani is found along with the
Neerazhi Mandapam.
In Kulakarai, Vasantha Mandapam is
found.

- Ranga Vimaanam - Sri Ranganathar.
- Santha Vimaanam - Lord Narasimhar.
- Thoyagiri Vimaanam - Ulagalantha

Festivals

days brahmotsavams in the tamil month chithrai(april-may).
- Vasanthotsavam
(spring festival) in vaikasi month (may -june)

festival in aani month (june - july )
- Sani
Pavithra Ustavam in Purattasi (September - October) is one of the most
important festival in the temple.
How to Reach :
This temple can be reached by travelling
around 4 Kms from Pallavaram Railway Station, which is about 7 Kms from
Chennai.
