Shirdi Sai Baba’s Punyatithi




Vijayadashami is a big festival in Shirdi, venerated as a holy day and it is visited by millions of pilgrims every year.Devotees celebrate this day as Sai Baba Punyatithi every year which falls on the day of Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami.


Saibaba attained Maha Samadhi on 15th October 1918 (around 2.30 pm) on Vijayadashami day. This festival is celebrated for three days. Millions of Devotees rush to shirdi and Maha prasad is distributed.


First day of festivities is marked with a huge procession which is taken out along with Sai Baba's image and Sai Satcharitra written by his devotee, Hemadpant. On the main day, water from river Godavari is brought for Shri Sai Baba's holy bath and a procession on chariot is taken around with great devotion. Main temple remains open for 24 hours during final day of celebrations.On Vijayadashami ‘Brahman Bhojan’ is also arranged with Dakashina (Donation to Guru).On the last day of the festival “SGavjewan” ( free meal for all village People and devotees) is distributed.
