According to Hindu
mythology, Lord Vishnu is considered to the creator of the world. The mythology
talks about two faces of Lord Vishnu. On one hand, he is shown as a smiling
deity blessings his devotees, and his second face is an intimidating one, with him
sitting on Kalswarup Sheshnag (king of snakes).
It
is written in the scriptures about Lord Vishnu that: 'Shantakaram
Bhujagshayanam’
This
means Vishnu resting on the serpent (Sheshnag). On seeing this form of Lord
Vishnu for the first time, a question that comes up in everybody’s mind is how
can one be so calm sitting on the king of snakes? An immediate answer that
follows is, he is the Supreme God and everything is possible for him.
However,
mythology enthusiasts will be surprised by the many powers and secrets of Lord
Vishnu.
What is the secret of Lord Vishnu resting on the Sheshnag?
A
human being is surrounded by duties and responsibilities in every stage of
adult life. The most important of them include duties towards family and
society. However, to fulfill these duties one has to make lot of efforts and go
through many problems, which can be quite scary like Kalrupi Sheshnag, and
create anxiety.
The
calm face of Lord Vishnu on the other hand inspires us to keep patient in these
tough times. With a composed attitude towards problems one can achieve
success.
Why Lord Vishnu’s name is Narayan?
As
per Hindu mythological, Lord Vishnu’s prime devotee, Narad, used to keep
chanting his name – Narayan. From that time all names of Lord Vishnu are spoken
by adding Narayan in it. For example: Satya narayan, Anant narayan, Lakshmi
narayan, Shesh narayan and Dhruv naryan among others.
According
to another legend, water emerged from the feet of Lord Vishnu. The name of
Ganges river, ‘Vishnupadodki’ that came out from the feet of Lord Vishnu,
highlights this fact. Also, water is known as ‘Neer’ and the place
where Lord Vishnu stays is also water. Therefore, from ‘Neer' his name Narayan
is formed. This means, God living inside water.
What is the meaning of his other popular name ‘Hari’?
You
must have heard Lord Vishnu’s being called as ‘Hari’. But how many of you know
why? We will tell you. According to the scriptures, Hari or Har means
remover or stolen. It is said that 'Hari Harati Papani’,
which means that Hari is the God that removes sin and problems from one’s life.
