The golden temple of Sripuram is a spiritual park
situated at the foot of a small range of green hills in a place known as
"Malaikodi" in the city of Vellore in Tamil Nadu. The temple is at
the southern end of the city of Vellore, at Tirumalaikodi. Thirumalaikodi is
about 8 kms from Vellore.
The Sripuram Golden Temple was built in a short
span of 7 years. It was inaugurated on August 24, 2007. The entire temple was
designed by Amma, as conceived through the divine vision. Sri Narayani Peetam
headed by a 31-year-old god man who calls himself Narayani Amma. Devotees hail
the temple as 'one of the wonders of the world' and say that it is the only
temple covered fully with gold.
The Sripuram Golden temple is located on 100
acres of land. It has been constructed by Vellore based Sri Narayani Peedam.
The Temple is headed by spiritual leader Sri Sakthi Amma also known as Amma
Narayani. The temple with pure gold covering has intricate carvings and
sculptures in gold. The lighting is arranged in such a way that the temple
shines even during night. The construction of the temple was completed on
August 24th in 2007. More than 1500 kilograms of gold was used to build
Sripuram temple.
All parts of the main Sripuram temple are covered
completely in gold. The Sripuram Golden temple has nine to fifteen manually
prepared layers of gold foil. The Golden temple is adorned with man-made
sculptures, ornately decorated pillars and roof. The salient feature of
Sripuram Golden temple is the Lakshmi Narayani temple or Mahalakshmi temple
whose 'Vimanam’ and ‘Ardha Mandapam’ have been coated with pure gold both in
the interior and exterior of temple. It is estimated that over 600 Crores of
Indian Rupees was spent to construct a true Golden Temple for Goddess
Mahalakshmi.
Sripuram-Sri Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple is
the largest Golden temple in the world, with over 1.5 tonnes of gold used. All
the gold work was done by artisans specializing in temple art using gold. Every
single detail was manually created, including converting the gold chunks into
gold foils and then mounting on the gold foils on copper. Gold foil from 9
layers to 15 layers has been mounted on the scratched copper plates. Every single
detail in the temple art has significance from the vedas. Sripuram temple
design represents a star-shaped path, positioned in the middle of the lushgreen
landscape, with a length of over 1.8 km. One has to walk along the star path to
reach the temple in the middle, which is laid by messages from Sri Sakthi Amma
and from different faiths and spirituals leaders.
The temple absorbs maximum energy from nature,
which creates peace and brings rest to the devotees who walk through the
starpath. Devotees walking through the starpath are blessed to read messages of
truth and morality that enables them to realize themselves and transform into
powerful beings. The ultimate purpose of the Golden Temple is to create
righteousness and transformation in human beings.
