Ashada amavasya is very auspicious in the month of Ashada.Deepa
Puja is the major ritual to perform on this day.On this day, people clean and
decorate their houses and clean all diyas (deepas) they have in their houses
and decorate them with colours.
They clean and sanctify a table with decoration and
rangoli (kolam) designs around it. All the deepas are placed on the table
and lit to perform pooja.
Deepa puja is dedicated to Istha Devata and Pancha Maha Bhootas (Air,water,fire,sky and earth).
Like Diwali puja, in the evening once again all deepas are lit.Devotees believe that Deepa Puja provides them Asta Aishwarayas.The next day of Deepa Puja (Ashada Amavasya) is the holy Shravan Month.
In Andhra Pradesh it is celebrated as Chukkala Amavasya,For Karnataka it is Bheemana Amavasya.In Maharashtra it is Gatari Amavasya.
