Sammakka Saralamma Jatara or Medaram
Jatara is a tribal festival of honouring
the goddesses celebrated in the state of Telangana. It is
also called as telangana Kumba mela. It is one of the largest fair in the world.
Many
tribal Devotees from different states of India (M.P, Chattisgarh, Orissa,
Maharastra, Karnataka and parts of Jharkand)reach to the festive place to
celebrate the Jatara.
Devotees believe in Goddesses Sammakka, Sarakka fulfill their desires with their divine and miraculous powers. Issueless Couples visit to pray the goddesses to bless them with children while young girls pray for good life partners.Devotees pay their promises made to goddess during the Jatra, by offering Jaggery, calfs, coconuts and donations in cash etc. Pilgrims take bath in Jampanna stream to get purified and absolve from sins.
In 2016 the Jatara begins on 17th February and ends on 20th February.
