Bathukamma Festival

Bathukamma Festival is a unique, very important and largest festival celebrated for nine days by women of Telangana. This festival falls in September–October called Ashvin or Aswiyuja. Bathukamma is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navratri. It starts on the day of Mahalaya Amavasya.The festival is mainly observed by women and is dedicated to Goddess Bathkamma  who is an incarnation of Goddess Maha Gauri.




Stories Regarding Bathukamma Festival :

Goddess Gauri killed 'Mahishasura' the demon after a fierce fight. After this act, she went to sleep on the 'Aswayuja Padyami' day, due to fatigue. The devotees prayed to her to wake up, and she woke up on the Dasami  day. Chola King lost her 100 sons and prayed to Goddess Lakshmi with sincere prayer Lakshmi was born. Parvati devi likes flowers, so Bathukamma is organised.

Celebrations :

Women decorate their houses and Rangolis are kept in front of their house,the men of the house go into the wild plains and gather flowers like gunuka, tangedi, lotus, alli, katla and teku. All the young girls And women gather in one place clapping together and sing the songs of Goddess
