Nandotsav is dedicated to Lord Krishna and is observed on the
day after Janmashtami in North India. All Krishna Temples in North India
celebrate Nandotsav.Vrindavan, Gokul, Mathura , Nandgaon are decorated with
lights, colors, lamps, thrill and fun like a bride adorns a bridal gown.
Every temple is gushed with hundreds of devotees who fast the
whole day and wait till the bell of twelve lord Shri Krishna in the form of
Ladoo Gopal is placed in the jhoola covered with flowers and as the clock
strikes twelve devotees celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna.
The festival is associated with the rituals and celebrations performed by Nanda Maharaj the father of Lord Krishna upon His birth. He distributed huge amounts of gems and jewels, cows, sweets, fruits and clothes to all the people in Nandagaon to celebrate the appearance of Lord Krishna. On Janmashtami evening, there would be an elegant and tasteful cultural and religious programme organized with special singers and kirtan performers, brought in from remote parts of West Bengal and Orissa.
