Bhishma Ekadashi




Bhishma Ekadasi is an auspicious fast, observed by the devotees of God Vishnu. It is celebrated on the Ekadasi day of the waxing moon period in the hindu traditional month of Magh.

On the same day people observe Bhoumi ekadashi and Jaya ekadashi.


Bhishma Ekadashi is considered as the birthday of ‘Vishnu Sahasranama’. Bhishma taught this stotra to pandavas, when he laid on the bed of arrows. Vishnu Sahasranama is thousand names of God Vishnu and one of the sacred texts of hindus. This period during the lunar year is dedicated to Bhishma Pitamaha. Bhishma Ashtami and Bhishma dwadasi is also celebrated during this time.
